The Church of the Resurrection
In 1958, the men of Sandringham began building the Church of the Resurrection. For five years the men volunteered their time to build their church and finally on May 19, 1963 it was opened and consecrated by Bishop Meadon. The first service was held by Reg Samson, a member of the community. Later, Rev. Reese, held regular services.
In November 1963, the first funeral service was held in the church. Ruth Bull, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Bull, was laid to rest.
In 1964, Bishop Seaborne held the first confirmation service. Elsie Elliott, Daisy Harvey and Rosalind Cross were confirmed.
Ricky Cross, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Cross, was the first baby baptised in the church.
Daphne Samson, daughter of Martin and Nina Samson, and Bert Lane of Eastport were the first to be married in the church.
Not only did the church depend on the free labour of the men, many items in the church were donated. The font was donated by Mr. Harold White and the candleholders by the Hapgood sisters. The children of the community saved their pennies to purchase the silver water jug used for baptisms. All of the pews, including those for the choir, came from St. Nicholas Church in Flat Island
Harold and Dinah White donated the font in memory of their 5 month old son, Arthur George White,
